ABOUT MAURA HALL

I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Earlham College and after several years working with refugee families overseas and homeless populations in Seattle, I decided to continue my education with the hopes of helping more people on a more personal and sustainable level. I received my Master's in Social Work at the University of Denver in 2017 and currently work as a clinical therapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. While I use a variety of therapy modalities in my sessions, I am especially passionate about EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. I am a certified EMDR therapist and over the years I have received advanced training in using EMDR to work with substance abuse disorders, DID, attachment, and complex trauma.

I strongly believe in the human capacity for resilience, healing, and transformation and I am passionate about tailoring therapy to fit the individual and their strengths.  My background as a licensed social worker has taught me to view people from a multi-systemic perspective, meaning race, gender, cultural beliefs, socioeconomic status, etc. all play a role in how we develop and interact within the world. I pride myself on staying on top of my field, from reading new studies on neuroscience and mental health to exploring new conceptions of trauma models and how to apply these theories into my work. Most of all though I genuinely care and invest myself in the people that I work with, and approach each session with empathy, a sense of humor, and a plan to work through your problems.

Having worked with a diverse population of clients over the years, I am particularly passionate and experienced in providing therapy to the LGBTQ+ community, a population in which individuals are statistically three times more likely to experience a mental health condition.  Some specific issues amongst this population include discrimination, societal pressure and expectations, internalized homophobia, gender dysphoria and coming out. As a culturally competent LGBTQ+ therapist, I understand the importance of gender and orientation as it intersects with other factors of identity such as race, age, religion, etc.
